Washington June 4 select committee to inquire into U S Mexico relations extended to next session and authorized to sit during vacation. House actions moved toward army reorganization and troop pay changes while transfers of Indian Affairs control to the War Department were approved. House and Senate members exchanged views on appropriations, tariffs and postal duties amid ongoing legislative activity.
The June 4 Washington report details a renewed probe into alleged election frauds in Louisiana and Florida. He camps near Piedras Negras reorganizing for stronger operations. In San Antonio Indians said to be from Mexico killed or captured two of Mr. Colson’s sons. one Indian died and several wounded. Cattle raiding and cavalry recruitment continue locally.
A three story brick building fell Tuesday at Baltimore Maryland burying ten men in the ruins. The President pro tem of the Senate has signed the bill to repeal the bankrupt law and it goes to President Hayes for his signature. At Jerome Park Tuesday the first race was won by Rhodamanthus, Garrick second time 1 19.
The National encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic began in Springfield on June 4 and drew distinguished members from across the country, signaling a well attended event. The New York money market reported gold at 100 and various securities showing strength with multiple rail and mining stocks listed.
A. J. Ralph, a traveling man and Republican delegate, says he knew details of Sher man’s bargain with J. E. Anderson a year ago and promises more information from Indianapolis. He is identified as the brother-in-law of Anderson.
