He studied law at the University of Nebraska then practiced in Sarpy and Douglas counties before moving to Sheridan Wyoming in 1898. He launched the Dayton Harpoon and the Sherman Enterprise before editing the Sheridan Daily Tribune and Buffalo Voice. He also served as Buffalo city clerk and Johnson county prosecuting attorney. He is a noted public speaker and editor with a wife and three children.
