Wilkes Barre Pa July The anthracite miners strike continues after eight weeks with no radical move. Operators reportedly losing momentum as the bituminous convention opens in Indianapolis on the 17th. Estimated wage losses reach eleven and a half million dollars and no open discontent is heard among strikers.
In Washington July 6 it is believed Filipino leaders held at Guam will decline amnesty in the president’s proclamation. A Philippine commission proclamation a year earlier saw principal irreconcilables refuse oath. Mabin declined to acknowledge U S sovereignty. In Chicago July 5 no clue by noon on Rock Island train robbers. Charles Lessler, a striped, will be released.
Reverend Farrier reports from Winnepes that the relics of Andree brought to the post are authentic. The find supports the earlier claim that Andree was killed by the Esquimes during the north pole expedition. Also notes an American victory in London in the international amateur championship with Arthur Duffy winning the 100 yard dash in ten seconds.
A Rock Island firemen committee will remonstrate with Chicago company officials July 17 over labor hours. The action comes as the company expands employment agencies in large cities, while at Washington Wu of China reports Chinese officials blocking reoccupation of Tianjin by foreign commanders, signaling fragile evacuation aims. Cheyenne Ice Company offers a reward for information leading to the conviction of any person breaking into local ice houses near Sloan's Lake.
In Columbus Ohio on July 6 Sergeant Malehean of the Twentieth Infantry died by his own hand in the barracks using a Krag Jorgensen. He left $1300 in money and had planned to return to Norway next month. Despondency was cited as the cause.
President Roosevelt and party reach Philadelphia at noon with Att General Knox, the group pausing at Harrisburg before Washington. In Washington a separate note reports S B L Penrose of Whitman College receiving two $25,000 gifts from D K Parsons of Chicago, bringing total endowment to $250,600 on condition the new girls dormitory story is completed by June 1.
London July 6 The king’s doctors say he is out of danger and no more bullets will be issued. A quiet birthday party for Princess Victoria at Marlborough House honors the four year old, the king’s favorite child who wishes to remain a spinster despite royal authors courting her. In Treka Kansas convicts argue legal jurisdiction. N Merrill, a murderer in Kansas prison, seeks self representation claiming Kansas lacks jurisdiction over him, which could free over 300 inmates if he wins.
Four men drown while bathing on Galveston beach, three of them newspaper men. Victims are James N. Davis night editor of the News, Walter Chandler reporter, Elbridge Rust owner of the Dispatch, and a boy named La Salle. The sea pull claimed them yesterday.
A noon Ballard report says Tracey was killed at Woodland Park. The text then names Bertram Cutler as John D. Rockefeller’s secretive associate and largest single stockholder in United States Steel, with details on stock holdings and a public meeting noted for El Paso Gas and Oil at Cheyenne Wyoming on July 14.
A Colorado street car derailment near Chatauqua killed one person and injured about a score as brakes failed on a crowded line. The wreck occurred late last night, a hospital was set up at St. Gertrude's Academy, and several passengers remained in serious condition today while others were stabilized.
Thirteen people are killed or fatally injured in a Mountain Lake Electric railway wreck near Gloverville New York. An open car carrying passengers collided with a runaway closed car then plunged through a curve leaving many buried in debris. Several injured are reported.
Royal bulletin says king’s physicians deem him out of danger and stop lengthy reports. King Edward’s July 5 feast feeds over half a million in parks and halls, with 70 000 volunteer waiters serving meat, roasts, vegetables, bread, beer, and lime juice. Bishop’s Park feeds 140 and the Prince of Wales visits.
Last evening at 11 50 two westbound freights collided at Dolores station west of here. A caboose and three cars derailed while Engineer Richert and Brakeman Lowerey were injured though not severely. The first freight was taking water when the second freight struck the rear. The engine was largely undamaged. A Cheyenne wrecker soon cleared the derailment and returned cars and caboose to the track.
About 1,500 attendees observed a peaceful 4th of July celebration in Wheatland Wyoming with Judge J M Carey delivering the address. The boxing bout between Jim Merrill Cheyenne and Oscar Gibson Omaha ended in a draw with Phil Kerrigan Cheyenne as referee. Roughly 100 Cheyenne residents attended the festivities.

Morning events at Fort Russell drew a large Cheyenne crowd for field sports. Winners included Company H in multiple races and fields such as one hundred yard dash and relay events, Troop A achieving several firsts, with various companies placing in the rest.
Superintendent R W Baxter of the Nebraska division discusses the Union Pacific piece work plan in Laramie. He argues it rewards work proportional to miles run, defends the plan against wage-cutting fears, and notes the strike is effectively over with business improving across divisions. He cites past brakemen strikes of 1885 and urges Cheyenne alignment with piece-rate practices.
