In Cincinnati on January 22 reports reveal a nearly $500,000 defalcation at the Scott Packing Company. Theodore Breamer, confidential clerk and cashier, is accused of embezzling over $400,000, including $160,000 in one year, after twenty five years with the firm. He surrendered and turned over assets worth about $200,000.
At Pike View coal mine Colorado Springs Jan 21 25 pound keg of powder exploded injuring Peter Slavin William Greenfield and Arthur Lanterman seriously and Jose Marino critically as he carried the keg and fell leading to the blast's fatal injuries for Marino.
The Wyoming state board of charities and reform toured Evanston Rawlins and Rock Springs inspecting state institutions. They received several miscellaneous books for the library. The Diamond Oil Investment and Search Light Oil and Gas companies filed articles of incorporation with $15 000 capital each.
Goldfield Colorado reports a major fire in the early hours causing about 76000 in damage. Four stores and seven small buildings were destroyed with help from nearby towns enabling containment.
