New York January 18 The meeting of seventeen western members of the house and senate appointed to draft a national irrigation bill continued. It will report to a full caucus of arid land state representatives next Monday evening. Amendments include allowing settlers on government lands to take up 100 acres at pro rata irrigation cost versus other terms and keep provisions directing proceeds from public land sales to irrigation improvements.
Information filed in the district court charges Kirch Kuykenda Hartley J Lake and John B Fredenstein with larceny and conspiracy to commit murder and assault with intent to kill at the Independence mine. The three men are jailed in default of $5,000 bond.
Louis January 18 The Exposition company adopts resolutions denying any postponement of the fair until 1904 and stating there is no truth in the report. Ex Governor Francis at Washington also denies the statement.

Chicago January 18. While rushing to a fire truck No 17 struck a sidewalk corner throwing firefighters to the street. Six injured including driver John Grean who is expected to die. One or two of the remaining five injured by die.
