A Brooklyn colored church building collapsed with eleven people killed and several injured during a religious service. Firefighters battled the wreckage as investigators examined the site for cause and safety violations.
Eleven people die and more than fifty are injured when decayed supports give way at Fleet Street African Methodist Episcopal Church in Brooklyn. The 60 year old frame building, condemned, had crowded funeral preparations when the collapse traps worshippers. Firemen rescue victims as splintered timbers rain down and survivors escape through windows.
A dispatch from General Kuropatkin reports heavy Japanese offensive on the Tsin khetehen detachment front and a Japanese push toward Kantic pass. Russian riflemen repelled attacks on Tangu and Beydaling while Che and Da passes remained in Russian hands after desperate fighting in Manchuria.

Sacramento Calif February 27 a report of the special investigating committee recommending the expulsion of Senators Emmons Bankers Wright and French from the Senate of California for taking bribes was adopted by thirty five affirmative votes. Bunkers expulsion was first and carried thirty four to zero with no negatives. French was expelled on the same vote as he was the only one present when the vote was taken and left the room. Wright urged fairness but was expelled by thirty three votes. Emmons was expelled by thirty four votes.
Muakden dispatches report Japanese forces crossed the Shakhe River Sunday evening but were checked by Russian reinforcements. Fighting continues on the Russian left flank with indications of a renewed Japanese center offensive.
St. Petersburg Feb 27 Ila semi official said Russia will issue a circular to the powers protesting Japanese persistent violation of Chinese neutrality as troops appear in the rear of the Russian army west of the railway.

Miss Catherine McCready aged 40, daughter of the late Dennis McCready of New York, was found murdered yesterday in a villa at Caserta Naples. Her sister was the first wife of the late Frederick Coudert of New York. She had lived alone at Caserta for about eight years. The safe in her villa was empty.
