A party of travelers reached St John s after thirteen miles of sea flats on ice from an imprisoned steamer. Two young Boston women named Dent guided the group to land while seven men needed aid. The steamer Mino had become icebound last Monday and later freed herself to Prince Edward.
Rumors say the Frisco line, Rock Island, Santa Fe and Southern roads plan a merger with Rock Island as the central figure. The Frisco is to transfer this week and its president Yoakum would become Rock Island president. The merger remains conjecture in financial circles.

An explosion at the Laffin Rand powder works press mill in Columbus Kansas killed three men and wounded two others. The dead are Lee Patterson and Bert Carr of Stephenville and Sanford Reed of Columbus. Injured are Lon Kyle and Jerome Connelly. Loose powder is blamed. the press building was destroyed. Kyle died later, Reed and Connelly were among the injured.
Roosevelt's special train arrived from New York on schedule. At the station he shook hands with the engineer and fireman before departure.
Jefferson City February 27 The House adopted a resolution denouncing the national House of Representatives for unseating Butler on grounds he was fraudulently elected from St Louis.
Two masked men robbed the Turner post office in Bisbee Arizona with a revolver threat to Postmaster Clark and stole $1,000. They fled toward Mexico. In a second item Carl Hoffman, a notorious burglar, was sentenced in Kansas City to twenty five years in prison on a guilty burglary plea.
Reports from Goodslajams Mex indicate the Colima volcano is erupting with prevailing earthquakes driving residents inland from the stricken district. News says many lives are lost and a group of Mexican Central directors with President Robinson were nearby when eruptions occurred, raising fears for their safety.
Holly Springs Mississippi February 27 Judge Lowry shocks locals by instructing a grand jury to indict progressive euchre players. The directive targets society members including Presbyterian Methodist and Episcopal officers or members amid widespread outrage.
New York traders saw Frisco shares drift with small activity as rumors of Rock Island acquiring FPriaga unsettled sentiment. Frisco first preferred rose while common shares fell up to about two and a half percent amid cautious trading. Kansas City: W D Miles resigns from Packing Company.
Samuel Nott vice president of a large manufacturing company in Fort Wayne Indiana was killed today by an express train on the Pennsylvania line. He stepped between tracks to avoid a freight and was struck and fatally cut.
Hamilton February 27 There is little chance of recovering Hannah Goddard’s body as the Ohio River floods into the Mississippi River. Police seek the body to build the Knapp murder case. Knapp describes his method saying he kills from behind with a knee on the back and the victim struggles briefly and dies. He adds that he killed his latest wife in the same way.
Denver police believe Albert W. Knapp of Hamilton Ohio who confessed to murdering several wives may have killed women in Denver as well as elsewhere. Details of his methods suggest he could be the fiend responsible for shocking killings in the city.
Senator Clark of Montana known as the copper king was extricated feet first from under a overturned carriage near a railway station. He remained smoking a cigar despite the collision and narrowly escaped serious injury in the Washington incident reported February 27.
Miss Dells B. Duncan of Helena Montana was found suffocated in her room on McAllister street while in town to buy her wedding trousseau. She was engaged to Charles Swarts a Montana legislature member.
An explosion in the cellar of Vienna's Imperial Palace caused alarm today but was found to be an accidental ignition of sporting ammunition. Two workmen were wounded.
Philadelphia report notes nearly $500,000 subscribed to establish an American Academy of Dramatic Art in the city. England buys warships with London saying Britain has purchased two armored cruisers under construction at Getioa for Argentina and two Obfilan warships being built in Bogland.
A roundup notes deaths in New York City and Virginia, a Confederate veteran ill on a train, political debates in Washington and proposed gambling felonies, a Montana welterweight title win on a foul, and comments on U S France alliance. Also reports boxing, a New York pistol incident, Rev Campbell offered London church post, German car enthusiasm, and labor tensions in Denver mills.
Washington officials report serious Cabinet discussion on the Panama canal treaty and the French company's holdings. Attorney General Knox met with William Nelson Cromwell, agent for the French interests, who reportedly seeks a $40 million cash payment or a large share of the amount. Cromwell's leverage threatens administration plans as Senate ratification lingers.
Mrs. Katherine Hennessy of Brooklyn, wife of Edmund Hennessy, asks Andrew Carnegie for proof of purchase and title to Skibo Castle in Scotland. In Griffin Georgia on February 27 William Fambro a Black man was shot to death by a mob after his house was fired upon. His wife escaped unharmed. Fambro had earlier been jailed for insulting a white woman and his fine was paid by his employer. Over 1000 shots hit the building before the mob left. In Louisiana on February 21 Frank J Brown another Black man was lynched at Mec Dade Station after a nonfatal shooting of a man named Cunningham.
A man named Peter Guahwa was found in a ditch on Tuesday night near the prairie, severely intoxicated and exposed to the cold. He remained unconscious and died today in the county hospital, his arms and legs frozen and his body ravaged by the cold.
A Colorado Southern principal stated that his railway owns the Fort Worth and Denver City and has long held most of its stock in the Colorado and Southern treasury. He dismissed Wall Street readjustment rumors linking Fort Worth with Colorado and Southern. In Denver the Fort Worth road is viewed as part of Colorado and Southern, despite questions about potential control.
San Antonio reports severe flooding from a ter rific rainfall. The San Antonio river overflowed its banks flooding basements and streets. St Marys street sits six feet underwater and property losses reach about 60 000 dollars as homes along the river were swept away.
Washington February 27. Democratic floor leader Richards resumes his filibuster tactics making a point of no quorum as only fifty members sit. The speaker orders doors locked and the sergeant at arms to bring in absentees. The rules committee plans two special rules to shut off debate and amendments.
The supreme court ruled the Rush bill constitutional, making Denver a consolidated city and county government. The decision ousts numerous city officials from their offices.
A five story Burbank building in Lowell Massachusetts was destroyed by fire. One body was found in the ruins and others are believed trapped. Seventy five lodgers lived on the upper floors and several were rescued by firefighters using ladders. Loss estimated at about 150000 dollars.
