Private advices from Indiana indicate no delegates favor Grant and only two express alternatives. The delegation is virtually certain to cast a solid vote for Blaine at the national convention.
The New York Herald says Conkling's star fades and Grant resolutions would have failed if delegations were admitted. The New York Tribune is evasive yet notes harmony and delegates voting per district. The World belittles the convention as Conkling’s tool. The Sun accuses Conkling of hypocrisy and calls the party unprincipled and liars.
Delegates from Illinois congressional districts gathered at the Grand Pacific to discuss the canvass and report on their areas. Preference showed a near split between Grant and Blaine, with a clear anti Grant majority and strong support for Washburne and a push for a third term for Grant.
Washington reports Blaine plans to arraign the democracy for honoring treason as the bill to remove statutory disqualifications against ex confederates from army appointments is set to come up again. The Feb 26 note emphasizes partisan clash over civil military eligibility.

President Hayes today sent the public land commission report and draft bill to both houses. He says the subject is of such importance that he respectfully commends it to prompt and earnest congressional consideration.
New York reports Dr. Brandreth who died at Sing Sing left his Broadway homestead and furniture valued at 400000 to his wife and Brandreth house. He apportioned stocks trademarks and remaining assets among seven daughters and six sons with a condition they pay the widow one thousand dollars monthly for life.
Jacob Muldrow and Nathan Fawcet were found guilty of first degree murder in the murder of Octave Solow last September in Mexico Missouri. The verdict was returned last night after days of trial and the men await sentencing in a few days.
Reliable travelers report two killings near Carris ferry over a hog theft dispute between families. Earlier, two men were murdered near Toliquat and Fort Gibson, one shot for his money. Authorities have not arrested the suspects, as coverage remains limited.
Washington February 20 The president approved a joint resolution authorizing the secretary of the navy to transport contributions for relief of the suffering poor in Ireland.
Corpus Christi reports Pitteen Indians ambushed a Mexican wagon train of six wagons heavily armed from Chihuahua en route to Laredo. Three drivers were captured, stock seized, teamsters escaped and notified Encerdas. Twelve pursuers set out as Indians moved toward the Rio Grande.
In San Francisco on February 26 the workingmen movement shows no parade or large Sand Lot meeting. Gannon, leading the relief effort, says after this week the committee will stop pressuring Chinese employers and citywide meetings at the Sand Lots will end. He vows agitation in other ways as tension rises between unemployed workers and merchants cautious about donations.
Annapolis February 26 The house of delegates referred a memorial from Cumberland and Allegan county citizens accusing Judge Pearce of accepting legal advice and services while serving as judge and charging improper immoral practices. a special committee will investigate the charges.
In Milan Indiana on February 25 authorities found Philip Boetz a reclusive hermit murdered with a crushed skull at his home. His nephew is suspected and has been arrested in connection with the crime.
Asham Capps observed Thornton Rerchant leaving a residence this morning. Capps snuck into the bedroom and struck Rerchant's wife, prompting a neighbor to intervene. The suspect fled after an axe was aimed at him but was later captured. reports suggest a mob may have fatally harmed him.
Galena on February 26 reports an alarm of fire at the National bank exposed a gang that used adjacent rooms to nearly tunnel to the vaults.
London February 26. In the house of lords Nolan's seed potato bill, authorizing shipment to Irish tenant farmers for planting, was read a third time. The house of commons was crowded in all parts.
