Woman throws two children into river in Pittsburgh

Mrs Maggie Debborn, 26, in comfortable circumstances and possibly mentally troubled, walked with her two children to the Twenty second street bridge and threw them into the Monongahela river. She kissed them, watched them sink, and attempted to jump in but was arrested before completing the act. one child was rescued, the other drowned.

Brutal Indiana lynching ends in hanging of George Ward

In Terra Haute Indiana a mob hanged George Ward a twenty seven year old Black man from the city prison after he confessed to murdering Ida Finkelstein a school teacher. Ward said the woman taunted him about his color and he killed her after an argument and assault. Ward had been in an insane asylum two years earlier.
