The severe cold leaves city hospitals nearly out of coal with 700 patients at risk as fuel runs short. Courts in the county adjourned due to the coal shortage, while the city hospital awaits supplies to be delivered through the day.
In St Louis B J Arnols and manager Gill cannot be found and are indicted by the grand jury for connection with the turf commission company failure. Garfield to head corporations under new commerce act noted in Washington report.
Havana reports President Palma says Minister Squire signed the treaty granting the United States the naval stations at Guantanamo and Basha House per the American government request. A public notice section promotes jewelry charms rings and watch repairs by local firms. Dr Barkwell and D Miller advertise offices and services in Ferguson Street and Keefe Hall.

Leadville Colorado February 17 at 0 o clock an engine on the Denver and Rio Grande railroad jumped the track near the Arkansas Valley smelter. Three men Conductor John Sommers Engineer Benjamin Spencer and Switchman W B Rogers were fatally injured. Fireman Sinciski and Switchman Long escaped as the engine turned over on an ice covered curve. The boiler pipes severed and the men were enveloped in scalding steam. Physicians say they cannot recover.
Pittburg and ty struggle with a blizzard as a flood threat nears the danger line for Pittsburgh. The flood spent its force by two o'clock this morning after reaching within three inches of danger.
State Senate advanced Maxwell's mine output tax by a viva voce vote with amendments offered to the measure. The legislature moved through numerous bills, including county seat removal and fire insurance provisions, while committee reports praised the treasurer and auditor accounts with recommendations for contingent fund accounting. Representative Dubois of Laramie county remains ill, and a Fort Logan commission plan to select Fort D. A. Russell sites was delayed.
