A resignation follows an investigation that exposed corruption in Colorado elections. Officials confirm the probe revealed systemic rot affecting the electoral process and public trust.
Washington February 15. Colorado congressman John F Shafroth relinquished his seat in a 40 minute session after acknowledging election fraud tainted the vote. He urged Bonynge seating and described ballots from 29 contested precincts examined under committee scrutiny. He noted illegal ballots affected majorities and the precinct result could not be salvaged.
In a congressional exchange, a judge-like stance favors seating Bonynge as the vote in the contested precincts trails the district by less than ten percent. The discussion lauds reform and thanks Shafroth and others for a fair investigation. Conferees are appointed on diplomatic bills as the House adjourns.

Eugene McAfee colored was shot and killed by J K Brewster at the Midland terminal depot Cripple Creek. A witness says McAfee rushed Brewster with a revolver prompting Brewster to fire one fatal shot. Brewster, recently from Canon City, is a United States deputy mineral surveyor. McAfee, a former U S cavalryman, had a good reputation and was a giant in stature.
