Doctors warn that any new complications could prove fatal quickly given the senator's extreme weakness. Fever has persisted for eleven days. The illness generally runs its course in three or four weeks. They are hopeful but cautious about potential unforeseen issues.

San Francisco February 10 Tommy Warren once the nation’s featherweight champion died of pneumonia in this city. He had served in the army transport service for several years and recently returned from Manila.
Policyholders who suffered losses in the Baltimore fire are to receive fifty percent of their insured claims. The decision aims to provide partial relief to those affected and outlines the distribution process and eligibility.
Baltimore February 10 The city faces possible outside aid as Mayor McLane says current conditions do not justify it. A charities board and state funds may cover destitution with $7,000 in contributions already received and further offers. A final decision will come in the next few days as officials review needs and potential federal support.

The session adjourned at 5 03 pm.
A massive fire at the Corn Products starch factory in Oswego, New York, from the chemical room damage, destroyed one building and soon a second, threatening Columbia flouring mills and Kingsford offices. Fire brigades from Oswego and Kingsford were aided by Fulton and Syracuse engines. two firemen were injured, one fatally. The mill employed six hundred workers, with losses projected at one million dollars and thousands of bushels of corn and starch ruined.
William Towne shot and killed his employer William Gardiner during a drunken quarrel at a limestone quarry seventeen miles north of Fort Collins. Towne, 22, claimed Gardiner fired first, then pursued with a Winchester. Gardiner died shortly after from a back-shot wound. Gardiner was from Laporte, “The Insolent Foe.” The incident follows a drinking spree and a ensuing duel.
Secretary of War Taft will be in New York on February 27 for a conference with Harriman Hill Speyer and former Secretary Root about developing railroad systems in the Philippines. The meeting will not decide franchises, which remain with the Philippine commission.
