Senate committee met to advance the statehood bill. The outcome was unclear but advocates of the original omnibus bill appeared confident as compromise proposals were rejected. Several prominent territorial residents arrived in Washington to push for passage and oppose merging Arizona and New Mexico.
A blaze started from a gas jet at Adler's dry goods store in Lebanon Indiana wiped out all business houses in the city center. The total loss is estimated at 155000 dollars.
Omaha dispatch reports Al Turner wanted for the murder of B. M. Dunlap at Lead City was captured at Alliance Nebraska two hundred miles away. He resisted arrest and was shot dead this morning, ending the manhunt.
Montreal February 6. Street car workers numbering about 5000 from clerks to snow shovelers paraded through the city in a sympathy strike protesting management demands. A striker was badly injured in a crowd fight after he drew a knife, and serious trouble was anticipated tonight.
Denver reports agitation in semi official circles over the World’s Fair commission charged with extravagance. It seeks a legislative appropriation near 260000 and has spent about 30000 with only salary vouchers to show. An investigation is requested.
New York February 6 The court continued selecting jurors for the trial of William Hooper Young accused of murdering Mrs. Pulitzer. Young was dragged into the courtroom by two deputies and remained with his head in his hands, showing a tense, unmoved demeanor.

Washington February 6 H. W. Bowen United States minister to Venezuela and representative in the present has had a personal encounter with Ambassador Herbert of Great Britain. Bowen charges trickery by England s executive and the relations between the two officials are strained with rupture possible at any minute. Officials note the lack of personal sympathy may delay settlement of the Venezuelan trouble. Bowen is impatient with red tape methods of European diplomats and has expressed impatience which aggravated Ambassador Herbert.
The Italian anarchist Rubino faced court as the trial opened in Brussels for shooting at King Leopold last November. He spoke in declamatory terms, denying being the guilty party while claiming he acted to expose the corrupt society. He admitted intent to kill Leopold and said he received money in London to spy on anarchists but redirected funds to the men he was supposed to assist.
St. Paul Ming reports Cole Younger is headed toward Missouri next Tuesday at noon for likely work. He has received numerous offers of employment and help from Missouri friends. One offer, to raise stock in Texas, appeals strongly to him.
All Yale warnings closed and a mass meeting of about one thousand students joined in the search for Mrs Tracy Peck aged 56 wife of the Latin professor Blohe Peck who has been ill with the grip. Her husband Mr Peck was shopping yesterday and has not been seen since.
The seven-masted steel schooner Thomas W. Lawcen went ashore in a northeast gale on the Middleground shoals in Vineyard Sound. The boat, recently built and the largest of her class, carries 8,000 tons of coal for Boston. Wrecking tugs have been sent to the rescue.

Plans and estimates are being prepared for the Secretary of the Interior with a $400000 storage facility and $200000 for the distributing system. A four story building on Fulmer Avenue and Williams Street collapsed injuring and burying at least fourteen workers. Five names are listed among the dead including Joseph D. Becker and William Burke while nine more bodies were later reported. The wall had been reinforced during remodeling with thirty men on the sidewalk when it fell, sending debris onto bystanders.

The Colorado Nevada Mining Company plans operations in Wyoming Colorado and Nevada with 15,00 capital stock. Copper Mountain Mines Company to operate at Colorado Springs with 15,000 capital stock. Morrison Hatate Sheep Company to operate at Casper with 20,000 capital stock. Thomas & Co to operate a mercantile business at Cheyenne and Chicago with 5,000 capital. The Evanston Drug Company to operate at Evanston Wyoming with 25,000 capital stock. The Leadville Ore Leasing and Mining Company to operate at Leadville Colorado with 100,000 capital.
A minor fire at Seventeenth and Ferguson shows dry chemicals work on small blazes while Alerts will demonstrate capabilities at Turner Hall on February 16. The Kevie event on February 12 features the Saturday Musical Club comedy with tickets available at Cahill Bros and Ellie for 50 cents.
