Wyoming Coal Being Tested for Local Use by Survey Team

A United States Geological Survey party examined coal deposits in the southeastern Big Horn basin between Nowood Creek and the Big Horn River. They found sub bituminous beds along Nowood Creek and near Kirby Creek that are thick enough for ranchers locally but not for railroad development. The coal burns freely, has low ash and sulfur, and is suited for domestic use with proper grates and drafts.

Punishments and public flogging in old English towns

Fragmentary account recalls carting a convict through Saltash and Olney with flogging details. It notes several cases up to 1336 and after 1827, including a youth forced to endure whip at the cart’s tall, a beadle simulating harsher blows, and a constable recording public punishment as spectacle.
