Fatal clash near Cooksville ends in deputy killed

A letter from Woomington reports a fight east of Cooksville where U S deputy collector Davis was killed and U S Commissioner Campbell badly beaten. Campbell, injured, describes the assault after a writ attempt, with Welsh and Walsh named and a pursuit underway. An Ohio express train accident at Elmwood station injures several young people.

Charleston Hangs three in ghastly murder case

A Charleston, South Carolina report says a husband found his wife dead and the killers were hanged after a crowd gathered. A Black boy Larnes confessed, naming two others. the trio were shown mercy none, then hanged by a wagon and tree. Also noted are counterfeiters captured in New York and unrest in Clare and Galway.

Irvington New York December 11 Jay Gould’s conservatory on the Hudson burned this morning causing an estimated loss of 100000 dollars.
