Completion of 100 miles within three years is required or the grant is forfeited.
In Newbury on December 1, 300 police and two hussar troops have arrived with 400 infantry en route to curb expected disturbances between nationalists and Orangemen. The magistrate faces whether to allow a nationalist march tonight as Parnell holds morning talks. Authorities ban outside meetings near Parnell’s hotel and plan dispersal if crowds form. An Orangeman contingent will take Orange Hall with police nearby as rioting looms and shops close.
The Times dispatch from Khartoum says Ala Ed Dera Pasha was killed at the battle start and Hicks Pasha fell on the third day after the last Egyptian cartridge was fired. Deserted troops faced water shortages with a price offered for a drink. survivors and provisions moved toward Khartoum as garrisons converge.
At about 8:30 this morning the Masonic Temple corner Twenty third Street and Sixth Avenue caught fire. Flames fed the mansard story with heavy smoke while the rest of the building was water drenched. Salt Lake dispatch says Dick Kelley killed George Fellows at Green River on Thursday after a quarrel. Kelley shot Fellows through the right arm and body. Fellows died instantly. Kelley was arrested and brought to Provo.
An attack on the Wallington express near Walpole failed when the engineer saw an obstruction on the track and braked. The train plowed through a construction of tied rails wedged crosswise, but the locomotive survived unharmed. No clue to the perpetrators.
December 1 report says James Boyd shot and killed his 17 year old son Alfred Boyd after an argument about work. The incident occurred at their Cumminsville residence where the father allegedly restrained the youth and fired a single shot to the chest. Boyd was arrested immediately.

Memphis dispatch reports a masked robber tried to seize A McWilliams's express funds at an office on the Memphis Charleston line near Corinth Mississippi at 4 am. A shot struck McWilliams. he wounded, died later. A second man fled. a reward of 600 dollars is offered for the robbers.
