A cantilever bridge under construction across the St Lawrence in Quebec collapsed killing an estimated eighty five workers. Rescue tugs searched the river at dawn with fewer than twenty bodies recovered. investigation into cause remains speculative.
A circular from the Commercial Telegraphers Union of America in Cheyenne urges members to mail their own telegrams to compare costs with Western Union and Postal Telegraph rates. It claims Uncle Samuel delivers for 2 cents while companies charge 80 cents to 1.26 dollars.
