Prince Ob Olonske was nearly killed at Tivoli gardens when a shooter fired four shots during a performance. The prince sustained a slight neck wound from one bullet, and the chief of police was also wounded. Police later arrested the assailant.
Bodies of Charles Salyers and Harry Gates were hanged by about 150 farmers at a cemetery. They were cut down at daylight and brought into town. The coroner's jury will likely rule death by unknown parties with no call for prosecution. Salyers and Gates had confessed to killing farmer George Johnson during a chicken coop raid. Salyers denied involvement. Farmers seized the jail at 1:20 AM and took the men out.
The Quivira Monument was unveiled in Junction City Kansas with ceremonies. The monument commemorates Coronado's 16th century discovery of a land of unlimited wealth and the Sixth Artillery fired a salute marking the anniversary of the Spanish expedition.
In Chicago this morning Policeman Timo thy Devine and Charles Pennell were killed by burglars who surprised them at work in an alley. The attackers escaped and a general alarm led to five suspects being arrested. Both officers died from a single gunshot each.
Silverton Colorado August reports say miners and mine owners face a wage dispute that could trigger a regional strike. The miners union with over a thousand members and twenty major mines threaten a shutdown by Thursday night if no settlement is reached, while a parallel owners schedule asks higher pay from August 1.
The Elks reunion formally opened in Salt Lake City with a parade. Governor Wells and aides attended the opening at the Mormon Temple where Wells gave the welcome address.

George Blackwell formerly of the U S cruiser Boston, missing since Manila battle, was found in a Tower freight car in poor mental and physical condition. Navy yard papers show he earned about five dollars prize money. authorities notified.

In Parkersburg on August 12 all United Mine Workers jailed for contempt were freed today except John Gehr. Judge Jackson approved the release on the condition of adherence to the injunction.
In Janesville Wisconsin Court Commissioner Edward F Carpenter granted an injunction restraining Thomas Bicket from contacting Mrs. Gallup or visiting her. The move followed jealousy claims by John B Gallup carpenter of Milton who had earlier barred Bicket from his home and filed a $10000 damage suit for alleged involvement with his wife.
D 8S Fannin of New York, traveler on the Friedrich der Grosse, is confined under the wandering lunatics act at St. Giles' infirmary after arriving in London from Southampton. He alarmed Hotel Cecil guests by driving an automobile into the courtyard and proclaiming he was the Savior from heaven, then fled with his money scattered through the streets. He is connected with Hass Brothers of New York and his parents are summering at Newport.
Fred Bohnstedt offers ten dollar reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who injured and destroyed property at his store located at Sixteenth and Eddy streets.
Rawlins Wyoming August 12 The Teller tie plant at Fort Steele rebuilt after a fire two weeks ago is back in operation with a full workforce. The old machinery was badly damaged and replaced. the plant loads ties onto cars for shipment, Fort Steele the loading point for ties on the Platte River for the Union Pacific.
Harry Hynds, back from Ogden, says Gardner is in prime shape for the upcoming leg boxing contest at the saucer rack next Monday night. Gardner believes he can beat Root, a view shared by onlookers. Trainer Jack Graham joins Gardner’s team, having previously trained Root for a match with Billy Stift in Indianapolis.
Articles of Incorporation filed for Dome Oil Company and London Wyoming Company Limited each with capital stock of $1,000,000 to operate in Albany county. Trustees for the first year include Wilbur C. Knight Paul Paulson Jr Edward Ivinson J R Graham C P Arnold Henry Walter and Rudolph Lindauer.
The state board of equalization, including the state auditor and treasurer, works toward finalizing the assessed state property value for the year. Railroads Union Pacific Burlington and Northwestern are in city to protect their interests with Geo. P. Bidwell and Frank Crandon representing the Northwestern. The estimated state property value will be about 43.5 million, up from 29.6 million last year, a gain near four million.
