Grain rates war rattles western railroads
Chicago Aug 7 One of the worst grain rate wars in western railroading looms as the Great Western files tariffs to equalize rates from Omaha to Chicago and Omaha to St Paul on grain from west of the Missouri. Rates drop to eight to ten cents from usual 11 to 12 cents, risking revenue loss and market manipulation fears amid pending large crops. Interstates Commerce Commission opposition noted.
