In Baguache Colorado on August 4, David Tucker a cowboy and Tereso Chaves a herder clashed over feeding territory. Tucker killed Chaves and surrendered to authorities. Sheriff Williams and the coroner conducted an inquest. Tucker jailed as bail hearings expected.
A Vienna dispatch reports a convicts revolt in interior Russia with thirty four killed and seventy three wounded. Twenty guards were injured and the ring leader was shot after the outbreak was crushed. Fifteen others were placed in solitary confinement for six months.
Two men, J. A. Harrington of Oshkosh Wisconsin and Thomas Lanton of Brinkman, were killed in a wreck on an Ann Arbor railroad excursion train near Cadillac Michigan. About seven hundred passengers faced jeopardy with over a hundred bruised and ten seriously hurt. The incident occurred this morning prompting a large emergency response.
Akron police raided the Eighth Regiment Armory this morning and arrested militiamen who were about to depart for the state encampment. The soldiers had been behaving violently since Sunday morning.

Commodore Joseph Montgomery, a veteran Confederate naval officer who nearly captured Grant in the Civil War and was a close ally of Jefferson Davis, died at the Chicago home of his son. Born in Kentucky in 1817, he earned fame as a renowned fresh water sailor in the Confederate navy.
Chicago lawyers for the packers today made public their answer to a federal injunction aimed at preventing a conspiracy to manipulate the market. On his deathbed William Thompson of Vilas Cole confessed to killing his own son Benjamin Thompson and Seeb Nicholson, who is in prison for murder. Nicholson appears innocent and likely to be released. The case reached Governor Orman with pardons papers, citing a conspiracy to silence Nicholson and reveal prior Kansas murders.
Aug 4 Shenandoah reports the Eighth regiment seen as the main threat by strikers. A planned conflict failed to erupt overnight with no stone throwing at the military camp. Outposts guarded the camp and troops were issued ball cartridges with orders to shoot to kill if attacked.

Engineer C J Ehrenfield reports a man riding atop a passenger coach between Wanmsutter and Frewen fell when the train slowed. Fingers were pinched in the vestibule casings, causing a scalp wound. He was rescued by the caboose crew and taken to Rock Springs state hospital.
