County system switch seen in several B C regions
Municipal Affairs Minister Bill Vander Zalm said four BC areas could adopt the county system within two years but stressed it would not be forced on any area. He noted the plan may not suit Greater Vancouver or Victoria. The system would place directly elected boards over rural areas including policing roads schools hospitals and libraries. Queen Charlotte Islands residents will vote in November on adopting the new system.
