Chetwynd Announces Municipal Election On November 20
Chetwynd will hold municipal elections on November 20 with two aldermen to be elected. Current council members Tom Wilson Sr and Marian Hoover have completed their two year terms. A Court of Revision on October 1 offers unregistered voters a chance to be added to the list or to register on election day. To vote a person must be 19, a citizen, and have resided in Canada 12 months, in BC six months, and in the municipality three months. August 20, 1982 residency in Chetwynd is required. Residency rules apply to non resident property owners as well. No declared candidates as of press time.

Catholic Womens League Regional Meeting in Chetwynd
Catholic Womens League members from Fort St. John Dawson Creek Mackenzie and Chetwynd gathered in Chetwynd for their annual regional meeting. Guest speaker Barbara Jarvis discussed the National Convention in Prince Edward Island. The group studied proposed constitutional changes for 1979 and documents will be sent to the Provincial office. UBC Professor Studies North industrial growth in the North

Electrified Tumbler Ridge rail line to start shipments in 1983
BC Rail plans an electrified 129.6 km Tumbler Ridge branch to ship coal from the northeast to Prince Rupert. The 50 KV system, seven 178-tonne electric locomotives from GM, and a deep sea terminal at Prince Rupert will cut diesel use and maintenance costs while improving line performance. The project hinges on funding from energy programs and a BC Hydro 230 KV tie in with one sub-station.
