Robert Blair, 20, of Chetwynd died after a three day hospital stay at St Joseph General Hospital. He was rushed to hospital September 12 following a downtown collapse and reportedly complained of an acute ulcer. officials believe a blood clot caused his death.
Police recovered the body of James Stevens Heily, 51, of Dawson Creek, who drowned August 30 in Cameron Lake, 26 miles north of Chetwynd. Three men were fined $50 each for a Gulf Service Station break in. Dennis Beratt, Claud Fortier and Divis Morin cited.
A homeowner narrates a chaotic night when a malfunctioning furnace nearly caused an explosion. After a failed DIY attempt, the gasfitter quotes four hundred dollars for a new unit, leaving the family debating safety, repairs, and obsolescence as the house cools and gas fumes linger.
The Associated Chambers of Commerce ask Premier Bennett to reconsider his stance on the federal industrial incentives program to attract new industries to Peace country. Olaf Paulson of Moberly Lake sold his residence to James Murray and his wife of Vancouver. Murray, previously a five year manager of the Hotel Chetwynd, is known in the district and plans to retire in this area with optimism about the locale.
The Department of Adult Education sponsors a defensive driving course at Chetwynd Secondary School starting Friday September 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. for three consecutive Fridays. A contractor will delay building operations until October and staff training will add an extra week. A blood donor registration drive with Miss Tracey and a father and son baseball banquet on September 30 at the Legion Hall are announced, with awards for club winners and uniform turn-in.
G G Moore president announces John Van Der Wissel of Vancouver and his wife as hotel managers at Hotel Chetwynd. Bud Campbell leaves manager role but stays as adviser. Bill Gardiner appointed as accountant replacing Rey Stirling. Vander Wissel was born in Amsterdam and trained there from age 13 before rising to European hotel management and later managed the Fraser Arms Hotel in Vancouver.

The Chetwynd Gymkahana Club will sponsor a two day horsemanship seminar on September 24 and 25. All interested persons are urged to attend and additional information may be obtained by phoning Lawrence Clary at 788-2788.
Alfrida Elden was elected president at the club's second meeting held September 10. Other executive members named include vice president Patsy Campbell secretary Rochelle Roller and treasurer Teresa Negu.
A Hospital Auxiliary gathering is scheduled for Tuesday the 28th at 8 p m at Chetwynd District Hospital. All ladies who knit are asked to bring their woolens to the meeting.
