Lawrence Miles Andrews and Tony Andrews, both of Chetwynd, appeared in Dawson Creek provincial court charged with break and entry at Chetwynd High School and the Public Library. Lawrence Andrews faced an additional charge of possession of an offensive weapon.
The final Gymkhana of the season is set for September 22 at 1 30 p m at the Rodeo Grounds. It will be the ninth event of the year and awards will be announced at the November Awards Night Banquet. Next club meeting is October 7 at 7 30 p m in the Cantor Board room. Lawrence Andrews received 14 months total for break and entry weapon breach of probation to be served at Prince George Regional Centre. Tony Andrews got three months for break and entry to be served at Prince George Regional Correctional Centre with a $100 fine. Vandals struck Chetwynd Secondary High School at 11 30 p m September 12 rocks were thrown through a door window. RCMP investigating. damage about $400. Barry Robertson of Chetwynd appeared on a driving over .08 charge, fined $350 and banned from driving for 30 days.
By Lou Burnham the library board met after summer to hear that a weekend break-in caused extensive damage and mess. The panel pledged to note the incident and assess security.

Neil McFaul named manager at the Government Liquor Store as his family relocates from Vancouver Island to Chetwynd. The McFauls have four children aged 5 to 12, and Neil expresses interest in local hunting and fishing opportunities.

The Tourist Information Centre in Chetwynd closed its 1974 season with a 28 percent increase in visitors from June 10 to September 8. About 2000 signed the guest book, with hundreds more not recorded. Bus tours and flood disruptions affected counts. motels ran near full occupancy. hours were 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. most days. Information sought covered Alberta, World Fair, local services, and attractions, aiding in travel planning and local business promotion.
A federal grant of 58000 is funding work at the Chetwynd Airstrip with the M.O.T. surveyor aided by the Flying Club. The runway will extend 1200 feet east with new aprons and a taxiway, gravel surfacing to pavement, and overshoot areas also gravelled. The project includes a planned power line, new administration area, and renovation of the terminal, with paving sought in 1975.
