Critters and beasties of Moberly Lake
June at Moberly Lake notes a heat wave and the season’s bird activity. Robins forage raspberries while flickers drill anthills and hairy woodpeckers call. Blue jays arrive at feeders around 6 am then stash seeds, as chickadees and nuthatches forage. Late snow reduces seed finds. many summer birds are late or absent due to a recent snowstorm. Pine siskins persist. hummingbird feeders were cleaned. preparations begin for overwintering grosbeaks and chickadees. June has lived at Moberly Lake for over 20 years.
