Cosens received a cor sage and gift, Bunne Hoffman was presented a PHRL pin, and the lodge earned BC’s provincial certificate for largest per member donation to Deaf Detection. Attendance at Penticton convention noted. next meeting set for September 18 with a buffet to close the evening.

Car Crash Near Mt Lemoray Claims Barbara Gladue Life
A single vehicle wreck near Mt Lemoray around 6:00 a.m. on September 12 left Highway 97 and overturned multiple times, killing Barbara Gladue, 22, of Vancouver. Passengers Marshall Jackson, Beverly Gladue, and Ernest Noskiye were hospitalized. Coroner Hayward to set an inquest date as police investigate.

Bennett to open Peace Canyon hydro project near Fort St. John
Premier W R Bennett will inaugurate B C Hydro’s Peace Canyon hydroelectric project at 2 p m on Tuesday September 23. The ceremony in the powerhouse sits on the Peace River 23 kilometres downstream from the W A C Bennett Dam and six kilometres upstream from Hudson’s Hope. The six year, 510 million dollar project will add about 13 percent of last year’s BC Hydro sales once in full production while a visitor centre opens the same day. Hydro and the province plan a fish hatchery boat ramp and camping facilities at the Peace Canyon reservoir.

Little League meeting outlines rules for BC leagues
Mr Bud Sweeney Little League District Administrator spoke at a recent meeting about rules and regulations for Little League Baseball and BC Minor Baseball. Girls and boys may play together in Little League, while BC Minor Baseball is boys only. Chetwynd used Little League last year with both genders. Possible later games could be in Prince George Mackenzie and Dawson Creek. Attendees included Gordon Thoms Dawson Creek Little League president and vice president Rick Walsh. Last year the group lacked an organized system and faced tour planning problems. Ron Moser noted only 11 attendees despite good promotion. A slate of officers was elected: President Ron Moser, Vice-President Scott Forrest, 2nd Vice-President Dean Henderson, Treasurer Ian Campbell, Secretary.

Loomis now provides daily freight service into Chetwynd with pickup at Dawson Creek airport. Hospital Administrator resigns from Chetwynd General Hospital
Margaret Grant, chair of the Board of Trustees, announces the resignation of Sister J. Maninka as Hospital Administrator effective December 9, 1980. The board accepted the resignation at its September 9, 1980 meeting and urged applicants to apply. Sister Maninka came to Chetwynd in 1971 as Director of Nursing and has served as administrator since 1973, after Doug Dimond left. She will return to the Providence Sisters' Provincial House in Edmonton to take up duties there.

Peace Canyon project to open with life sized dinosaur models
Visitors to the Peace Canyon project opening on September 23 may view two life sized duck billed dinosaur models in the visitors centre. Premier W R Bennett will officially open the project at 2 p m.
