Low Water Flows Persist Across Much of British Columbia

Waterways across northern and central British Columbia remain at or near record low flows due to early snowmelt followed by dry warm weather. Rivers such as the Thompson at Spencer Bridge and Fraser at Hope show historic low levels, with widespread persistence including the Peace region and rivers like Nation, Halfway, Osilinka, Omineca and Mesilinka. Rainfall in June to August was 30 to 70 percent of normal, prompting conservation guidance from Environment Minister Barry Penner and a link to the ministry’s water conservation resources.
