Tim Trask became the first to complete the Chetwynd to Dawson Creek 101 km swim and earned a permanent arena plaque. He swam daily through summer, accumulating 101 km and joined five women as recipients of Wayne Smith’s congratulations and the BC Fitness Medal for swimming 25 miles alongside Marilyn Maynard Dorothy McKay Patti Healy and Sue Teslyk the youngest recipient at 14 Good work and continued effort noted.

Eighteen crown land parcels sold at Fort St. John auction
Environment Minister Jim Nielsen announced that an August 15 auction of eighteen agricultural Crown land parcels in Fort St John all sold. Highest bonus bids ranged from 100 to 5700 dollars, averaging 1900, totaling 32325 dollars for 7937 acres. Upon lease completion, parcels may sell for 28.72 to 51.62 per acre, about 289665 dollars for the eighteen parcels. The next auction, in Dawson Creek, will be on August 24, 1978, for seven parcels totaling 5637 acres.
