Poppy Campaign in Canada Supports Veterans and Dependents
The Royal Canadian Legion notes that poppy material is produced by disabled veterans or their dependents to support remembrance. In 1988 the campaign distributed over 124 million poppies and about 68,600 wreaths and sprays across Canada, with manufacturing costs at 1.9 million dollars and average branch expenses of 1965 dollars. Funds exceeding 4 million dollars funded needy veterans, medical research, bursaries for veterans’ children, day care, meals, transportation, housing and elderly care facilities, and the Dominion Command service Bureau in Ottawa which assists with pension submissions.
