Love’s Power Realized in Catherine Lawes at Sing Sing

In 1921 Warden Lewis Lawes began at Sing Sing and transformed the prison into a humanitarian place, credit often given to him but his wife Catherine is the force. She befriended inmates including a blind prisoner and a deaf mute, learning Braille and sign language, drawing crowds of inmates at her funeral. Her acts inspired prisoners to honor her memory as they lined up to pay respects, demonstrating love’s transformative power. Pastor Bill Evans of South Peace Fellowship Baptist Church in Chetwynd shares this reflection on love’s capacity to lift and free.
