Sentencing delayed in Nova Star Inn fire case
An 18 year old pled guilty to mischief endangering human life after a June fire at the Nova Star Inn and Suites. Crown seeks one year in prison plus a year of intensive supervised probation. New evidence may show aggravating circumstances and the court granted a further sentencing hearing. Four other youths were charged. The fire caused about 15 million in damage to the hotel and nearby businesses. The defence calls the new statements hearsay and contest admissibility. The judge granted the delay and a sentencing hearing was ordered for the next court date.
