Rick Davison reports NFPA leaders met with Chetwynd councillors and local officials to oppose transferring surplus Forest Renewal B.C. funds to general revenue and to press for streamlined Forest Practices Code permits. They urged consulting 126 forest-dependent communities and securing two years of timber cut permits to stabilize planning amid slow approvals. The minister said staff would review options to streamline the system.

District reviews six month plan for phone system

The District of Chety will continue using its automated phone system and review progress in six months. A report to council notes the old live-operator setup caused 3500 calls in 20 workdays and 108 overtime hours for a receptionist. Since automation, complaints fell and no overtime has been paid, with finance estimating a $20,000 cost will break even in about 18 months due to savings.
