Critters and beasts of Moberly Lake nature notes

June, a long time resident of Moberly Lake, notes wildlife activity as winter nears. Juncos persist with white breasted nuthatches and young white crowned sparrows, a tailless bird among them. Blue jays, sunflowers sprout seeds, a tiny flycatcher guards honeysuckle against juncos and chickadees. A grouse visits the feeder and a fruit loving dog guards a lone apple tree. Two loons feed near the beach while a flock of small waterbirds, possibly piebald grebes, feed nearby. June has lived at Moberly Lake for over 20 years.
