Tembec Set to Reopen Chetwynd Mill in 2003
Chetwynd officials led by Mayor Charlie Lasser push aggressive incentives to lure Tembec back, offering a five year tax phase in. The restart could create 180 mill jobs and 120 indirect roles, with revenue redirected to capital programs. Officials say attracting employers is essential for local employment.

Tembec to invest $20 million to reopen Chetwynd pulp mill
Tembec buys the idle Louisiana-Pacific pulp mill in Chetwynd BC for a nominal sum and plans a 20 million upgrade to restart production by January. The deal creates up to 300 jobs including 180 at the mill and 120 in logging and trucking, with a six year CEP union contract already ratified. The mill produces hardwood aspen pulp, aligning with Tembec’s high yield hardwood assets and Temiscaming and Matane operations.
