Union challenges district over contracting out road work
A letter from the Canadian Union of Public Employees to the District of Chetwynd questions contracting out of road repairs on South Access Road near the BCR tracks. The project widened the roadway with a gravel shoulder for parking large trucks serving Gear-O-Ram and Northern Metallic. The union claims municipal workers could have done the job and questions why it proceeded without union awareness, while officials cite a full staff schedule and capital project status, noting equipment and seasonal staffing concerns.
