Northern Tax Allowance may be kept as credit says Alderman
Alderman Richard Martin of Chetwynd on the Northern Residents Tax Deduction Task Force says there is up to a 90 percent chance parts of the Northern Tax Allowance will be retained as a tax credit. A delegation of 18 met Ottawa officials in September to press Northern Canada concerns. Frederick Fredericks called the issue the toughest he has faced, arguing for fairness and equity as northern life costs rise. Martin cited a survey showing food costs 9 to 43 percent higher in Northern BC and longer winters raise fuel costs.
