Chetwynd District seeks Building Canada grant for sewer lagoon upgrades
The District of Chetwynd plans a $4.4 million upgrade to its aging sewer lagoon system with a concrete bunker aerator and aims to fund over half the cost through the Building Canada grant program. An application under the Major Infrastructure component will be sent before the February 28, 2015 deadline. Golder Associates aided the district since 2013 in solving discharge permit exceedances and proposing upgrades. The province warned of possible fines for high lagoon discharge to Pine River, and after studies the district chose a deep concrete aerated lagoon option with a small footprint and standby generator.
