W A C Bennett Dam draws tourists to Peace River area
Hudson Hope reports that the W A C Bennett dam and Gordon M Shrum station attract 34,000 visitors yearly. BC Hydro offers free summer tours of the Peace River project, with possible spillway waterfalls when Lake Williston surplus is released about once a decade. Eighty thousand cubic feet per second spill sends water 200 feet to Peace River as seven generators operate toward a ten-unit plan. Lake Williston now covers 640 square miles, BC's largest.
