Northern Lights College to establish permanent Chetwynd campus
Northern Lights College will open a permanent campus in Chetwynd after final arrangements. The Dawson Creek contract frees three classroom trailers to move to Chetwynd, with District No. 59 leasing a five acre parcel south of the Chetwynd Post Office on Airport Road. The move saves about 40 000 dollars yearly on leased space and was approved by the Minister of Education after a successful appeal of prior cancellations. The college already operates in Dawson Creek Fort St John Fort Nelson and has a Mobile Learning Centre in the Stikine.

Chetwynd Council Reports Resignations And Shared Services
The November 6 1984 meeting of the Chetwynd and District Council reviewed correspondence from local clubs and groups. Larry Nichol of the Rod and Gun Club requested road survey work and joint use of ski facilities. the council approved two full grader days and noted information on lease changes for the Ski Lodge. Twila Soule reported renewed Ski Club interest with 37 attendees and Mayor Lasser praised joint ventures with Rod and Gun clubs as a model for cost efficient recreation. Additional letters covered water and sewer changes, ballfield cleanup invoicing, NCMA updates including the 1985 convention in Chetwynd, and a request from the Women’s Resource Society to pay only nominal taxes. The Boy Scouts asked to keep the 1984 tax rate for property. the council approved sending a response. Four other letters were accepted for information. Committee minutes from October 19 to November 1 1984 were adopted. Dog control and advertising costs were discussed. lighting at the Senior Citizens facility was partly resolved. Alderman Hicks reported an outdoor lighting agreement advance.

Deer shot near Highway 97 in Chetwynd area
A private citizen reports two female deer shot near Highway 97 on the Chetwynd side of East Pine. A yearling doe with meat taken and a mature doe were found in a field beside the highway. A reward is offered by the B C Wildlife Federation for information leading to conviction. Contact Bruce Taylor or Doug Gillett at the Conservation Office. Chetwynd Club Improves Ski Hill Road and Indoor Range
The Chetwynd Rod and Gun Club begins work to lower the Ski Hill road and plans an indoor gun range north of the ski lodge with a cost estimate of 26 000 to 32 000 dollars. Donations of car and fuel have been provided by Frank Campbell and Lorne Dalke. A progress report is due at the November 22 1984 meeting.

Canfor reports third quarter loss narrows. nine months show improvement
Canfor Corporation reports a 1984 Q3 net loss of 5.4 million or 0.33 per share after dividends on net sales of 282.8 million, up from 1983. For the nine months ended September 30, 1984, net loss is 15.7 million or 0.91 per share on 780.9 million in net sales, improved from 27.9 million loss in 1983. Peter Bentley notes gains in forest products income and lower interest costs as factors.
