Wal-Mart to Open in Dawson Creek Development
Wal-Mart will anchor a 149,000 square foot retail project at Fynn's Corner in Dawson Creek with an in-store McDonald's and gas bar. First Pro Shopping Centres backs an estimated 22 million dollar development that starts spring and aims to open next fall with 150 permanent staff. The project, seen as bolstering the local economy, may reduce cross-border shopping to Alberta markets and adds four unleased buildings.

Dawson Creek becomes the first BC municipality to sign an aboriginal employment partnership initiative. The pact, involving the city, Metis Provincial Council, the province, and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, aims to share information and promote fair, barrier free hiring without quotas. Mayor Wayne Dahlen outlined goals to become an employer of choice for aboriginal job seekers and retain local talent. Deputy minister Bob de Faye signed for the province, noting the agreement facilitates information on opportunities.
