Evening Grosbeaks and Berry Rich Peace Country Notes
Birdwatch Canada reports a mixed winter for Evening Grosbeaks with a drop in 1996 97 share while most provinces show fewer sightings except a small rise in British Columbia. Feeder trends favor black capped chickadees and pine grosbeaks with redpolls dominant in January. local berries were abundant last summer but are dwindling as flocks move on. Loon sightings include Brian Barker noting three juveniles near his beach, now unseen, and grouse have been scarce as bears and thrushes forage nearby.
