Voters in the Village of Chetwynd and surrounding area will vote on November 18 to amend the Supplementary Letters Patent of December 22, 1971 granting the Peace River Liard Regional Board authority to build and run the Chetwynd arena. Rising operating costs and a three mill cap on assessment prompted the referendum. Recreation Commission chair Bert McGraw notes the arena barely covered costs, dipping into the Capital Reserve Fund with government grants and village credit, now exhausted.
