Massive snowstorm strands 13 CFI workers overnight

A fierce snowstorm trapped 40 forestry workers near Kakwa Wildland Provincial Park, including 13 from Chetwynd Forest Industries. Rescue aircraft from Manitoba to British Columbia aided crews, as 1.5 metres of snow fell and workers sheltered through a night of extreme weather.

Rescue Operation Saves 40 Workers After Fast Snow Storm

A swift snow storm trapped 40 workers prompting a major rescue led by 13 aircraft and 100 rescuers. Buffalos and Hercules aircraft from bases in Victoria Winnipeg and Cold Lake ferried survivors to safety. Most workers sustained minor injuries or hypothermia with hospital care in Grand Prairie Alberta.

Chetwynd Fire Dept to Add 2007 LaFrance Aerial Truck

The Chetwynd Fire Department will receive a new 2007 American LaFrance 65-foot Telesquirt on a Metropolitan Custom Cab in nine months at a cost of $519,598. It will replace Truck 2, a 44-year-old 62-foot aerial truck, as the department nears end of lifespan per the Fire Underwriter's Survey. The district has $460,000 saved toward the purchase.
