Medical students pair with family physicians across B C
Fifty six University of British Columbia medical students will work with family physicians from Fort Nelson to Oliver Fernie to Prince Rupert this summer. They receive 600 to 700 dollars monthly from the province to cover lost earnings while training in rural settings. The program, organized by UBCs new Department of Family Practice, aims to attract more students to practice in smaller centres and is supported by the Royal Canadian Legion with a 40000 dollar yearly chair.

Peace River Championship Loggers Sports Day Draws Big Crowd
The sixth annual Peace River Championship Loggers Sports Day in Chetwynd May 20 drew a record 250 contestants as Hon Don Phillips opened the event. Winners spanned events like Tree Falling, Chopping, Checkermans Race, Double Hand Saw, Truckers Event and Loading, with top honors going to Leo Anderson, Kevin Stewart, Brent Cunningham, Roy Cunningham and Leonard Paul respectively.

Hydro awards contract for final unit at Peace River station
B C Hydro awarded a 5.8 million contract to Interpro Contractors Ltd of Richmond for concrete, mechanical and electrical work at the G M Shrum Generating Station on the Peace River for the tenth unit. A 10.2 million turbine package from Nissho Iwai Co of Japan will join later, with about 40 workers in camp by spring 1979. The unit will add 300 000 kilowatts to reach 2 416 000 kW, and is to operate in February 1980.
