Local economy in Chetwynd boosted as coal mines stay open
Western Canadian Coal reports in the Fiscal 2010 Operations Update that Brule and Wolverine mines will remain open in 2009 after achieving high coal sale prices. About 460 workers were at risk of closure, with notices issued in January and May 17 expected shutdowns reversed. Mayor Evan Saugstad and investor relations manager David Jan emphasize the decision preserves jobs and business activity for truckers and loaders in Chetwynd.
