Canfor blames winter and strike for 2014 quarter drop
Canfor reports first quarter 2014 adjusted earnings of 45.5 million or 33 cents per share, down from 61.9 million a year earlier, with operating income rising to 84.4 million. The results reflect lower lumber and pulp shipments due to a harsh winter and the Port Metro Vancouver truckers strike, offset by gains in lumber and pulp and a weaker Canadian dollar. The company notes lumber and pulp shipments fell 16 and 22 percent from late 2013, while lumber production rose.
