Seventh Day Adventist School to be renamed Peace Christian School
The Chetwynd Echo reports that the Seventh Day Adventist School will rename to Peace Christian School in September to emphasize inclusive Christian education for all children. A new larger facility is planned for 2005 2006 with land negotiations ongoing. An open house on May 11 invites parents to learn more and register for 2004 05. The school serves Kindergarten through Grade 9, follows BC curriculum, and offers band choir and bible classes with small class sizes and a focus on respect.

Violence Against Women Week proclaimed in Chetwynd
Mayor Evan Sangstad declared April 25 to May 1 Violence Against Women Week in Chetwynd. The Chetwynd Transition House and Women's Resource Centre work together as residents joined a walk from the Resource Centre to the Leisure Pool to raise awareness. The province marked the week with prevention efforts and minister Ida Chong announced $33 million yearly for direct services, including transition houses and counselling. Eight schools will pilot in-school counselling starting this fall, Chong said, urging every person to help women live free from violence.
