Tenders Open for Flatbed Creek and Wolverine River Bridges
Transportation and Highways Minister Alex Fraser and Industry Minister Don Phillips announced tender openings for two bridge projects on the Chetwynd Tumbler Ridge Access Road to North East Coal Development. Bridges at Flatbed Creek and Wolverine River will replace temporary spans with multi span structures, as paving contracts only remain. The 95 kilometre Road to Resources will open to traffic in 1983.

DREE reports near 630 million in 1980 81 spending
The 12th annual DREE report shows total expenditures just under 630 million for 1980 81. Minister Herb Gray tabled it in the House of Commons amid a broader reshuffle into the Department of Regional Industrial Expansion. Direct incentives totaled 117.8 million for locating expanding or modernizing in slow growth areas. A Regional Development Incentives Program yielded 989 net offers expected to create 20 000 jobs. Provincial subsidies reached 327 million under the year. Nine new and 48 amended agreements brought 75 active, with 18 cost shared. Other programs accounted for 131 million. Gray framed interdepartmental coordination as core to national regional development.

Chetwynd group to compete at first BC Festival of the Arts
A Chetwynd Elementary Senior Secondary School theatre group will travel to Kamloops in June to compete in the provincial Association of BC Drama Educators final at the inaugural BC Festival of the Arts. The festival runs June 2 to 5 and features music dance drama and fine art plus master classes demonstrations and entertainment.
