The Forest Practices Board says more operators in British Columbia now comply with the Forest Practices Code, with six of 13 audits clean in 2000 and a record 37 public complaints, 23 of which led to investigations.
Ken Nikirk from the Chetwynd Area was among 10 western Canada winners of a contest offering 5200 dollars in groceries at IGA. Five Dodge P T Cruisers were among other prizes. Kim Stewart of Chetwynd IGA expressed pride at a local victory as Nikirk smiled and prepared to shop.
The Chetwynd Indoor Rodeo drew crowds over the April weekend with little rain and light wind. Cowboy Poet Carl Crantz emceed the Friday event with Grant Hammy Wayne Ezeard Earl Frederickson Linda Wagar and Lena Sloane among performers. The multiplex hall offered a cozy performer audience area and the program featured songs and poetry about cowboy life alongside bronco busting barrel racing calf roping and team roping in a packed venue. Rodeo dates will be continued in the next issue of the Chetwynd Echo.
