Scientists identify SATB1 breast cancer gene as metastasis trigger
Montreal linked study in Nature reports SATB1 as a master regulator that flips thousands of genes in tumor cells, driving metastasis. Experiments in mice show SATB1 suppression greatly reduces lung nodules, while overexpression accelerates growth. researchers aim for targeted nanocapsule inhibitors, with prognostic tools expected soon.

Smoking stunt growth in teen boys and not girls
Canadian researchers tracked 1,293 Montreal students from grade 7 to high school. They found boys who smoked 10 cigarettes daily from age 12 to 17 ended about an inch shorter and leaner, while girls showed no height or body mass impact. Funded by the Canadian Cancer Society, the study adds to evidence that active smoking affects male adolescent growth.
